Counterfeit ED Pills: What's Actually In Them
September 11, 2026 · 5 min read
ED drugs are one of the most counterfeited pharmaceutical categories on earth, because demand is high and embarrassment makes buyers reluctant to use normal channels. That combination is exactly what counterfeit operations look for.
What testing has found
Analyses of seized counterfeit ED tablets have repeatedly found wildly variable amounts of active ingredient — from zero to several times the labelled dose — plus contaminants including talc, commercial paint, printer ink, plasterboard and, in some cases, undeclared amphetamines or antibiotics. Dose variation alone is dangerous: an unexpected multiple of a normal dose can drop blood pressure sharply.
The supplement loophole
'All natural' male enhancement supplements are a frequent vector. Regulators regularly issue warnings after finding undeclared sildenafil or tadalafil in products sold as herbal. If you take nitrates and swallow an unlabelled PDE5 inhibitor, the consequences can be severe — and you'd have no idea what caused it.
Red flags when buying
Any of these should stop the transaction.
- No prescription required
- Unsolicited email or social media offers
- No pharmacy name, licence number or physical address
- Prices dramatically below legitimate generics
- Packaging with spelling errors, odd fonts, or no batch number and expiry date
The legitimate cheap option
Generic sildenafil and tadalafil are inexpensive through licensed pharmacies. There is no cost argument that justifies the counterfeit market anymore — the price gap that created it has largely closed.
The short version
A prescription is a supply-chain guarantee as much as a medical one. That's most of what you're paying for.

Prescription treatment is only available after an evaluation by a licensed provider who determines it is appropriate for you. Do not take a PDE5 inhibitor if you use nitrates or riociguat.
